The Weekend
For the most part, it was a fairly productive weekend. I slept in on Saturday, and had the hankering to knit, problem being none of my WIPs were exactly what I wanted to knit... I have a dishcloth in progress, but I'm out of one of the colors of yarn, and I sorta want it to be uniformly colored... I have three socks going, but two of them were lace and required more concentration than I wanted to give, and the other is the most boring K2, P2 rib and not only is it boring, it's slow and on size 0 needles. So, I decided to cast on yet another sock.... Jaywalker in Spunky Eclectic Hot Rock. The yarn is knitting up slightly different than I expected, but I'm liking it.
I also spun up, plyed and hanked some more yarn. When I finished the purple/green combo, I had about a little less than half of the purple left after I plyed, plus I had about 2 oz left of purple roving left that I hadn't spun up on the spindle, so I spun up that remaining roving on the wheel, and then plyed it and came out with this purdy purple yarn.
Then, I started on the two pounds of green roving I bought at VT Sheep & Wool, spun up two bobbins worth of singles, and then started to ply, there's still about half left to ply, but here's the first half:
My weekend wasn't all fiber though... We went to go see The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters in Meredith. It's a documentary about competitive retro video gaming and the battle for high score record holder between Billy Mitchell and Steve Wiebe. Really well done, and even if gaming isn't your thing (it isn't mine) it's worth seeing if you get the chance. (You can see the trailer here).
Part of the documentary was filmed at Funspot, the entertainment center and home of the retro arcade museum, in Weirs Beach, NH, so we felt somewhat obligated to go see it.... and ironically, I actually did know someone who appeared in the film. The part where they're at Funspot for the yearly tournament, Justine Barker, Miss Winnipesaukee 2007, does an intro welcoming you to Funspot and I took dance classes when I was in middle school with her.
Today was a little more low key and productive. My current goal in life is to get myself more organized, so I'm starting the FlyLady program... Well, I'm not strictly following it, I'm taking some ideas from other places too, like the Apartment Therapy book, Organized Home and Holiday Grand Plan, but the idea is to declutter, get organized, get myself on a schedule and cook meals again.
While I was waiting for subscriptions to reopen for the Yarn Pirate Booty Club (which I did join), I made a meal plan for this week. On Friday I bought a copy of CookWare Deluxe, which allows you to store recipe, make a meal plan calendar, and will allow you to print everything else and then organizes a shopping list for you based on what you're making. All with little to no thought into the process! I'm loving this!
Once I had the meal plan, I printed out our shopping list, went downstairs and crossed out everything we already had in the kitchen, and then we went into town to go shopping. We went to Target first, getting toilet paper, shampoo and a binder for my "control journal". Then to Shaw's to get our food for the week. I guess the next test is going to be whether we can actually stick to cooking things this week... I'm not the cook around here, but I'm going to try and do my best to facilitate Matt doing some cooking, even if that means doing some prep work before he gets home so he can just take over when he gets here.
When we got back, I finally got around to putting all the clean clothes away, and then I decided to take control of our sock problem... Our sock problem being a plastic storage container holding a ton of socks.... More than half had no mate, or were so old and worn that they weren't worth keeping. I threw out basically a trash bag full of socks!
Matt cleaned the bathtub and around the sink, cleaned the sink downstairs and did the dishes, and vacuumed the living room and the stairs.
I set up my control journal, which is something in the FlyLady program where you keep all your lists of routines you need to do, along with other important information (i.e. this is where our meal plans go).
Matt cooked dinner tonight, a yummy pork tenderloin. So, so far so good...
Our plan before bed is to start doing what the FlyLady calls the "27 Fling Boogie" which is where you purge 27 things that you don't need cluttering your house until all your clutter is gone. We'll see how that goes. I'm trying to get Matt to do that with me because 27 x 2 will mean clutter gets reduced faster.
I'm giving FlyLady a try as
I'm giving FlyLady a try as well! My house is cluttered per se, but I have a hard time developing a routine to keep it clean. So far, I'm three nights in and my sink is still shiny!
